The Scrappage Scheme
The Scrappage scheme, offering up to £2,000 off a brand new car, was introduced by Alistair Darling in the last budget, and was intended to boost customer confidence and kick-start demand for new cars.
Alistair Darling announced that the Scrappage scheme would run until 28th February 2010 or until the funding runs out, whichever comes soonest.
Due to the popularity that we have seen so far, we expect the £300 million funding to run out much sooner than February 2010 as more than 35,000 cars have been ordered as part of the scrappage scheme within the first two weeks of the announcement.
The £2,000 grant is made up of £1,000 from government with matched funding from vehicle manufacturers.
When does the scheme start and finish?
You are able to pre-order your new vehicle at Day’s now. The scheme will end on 28th February 2010 or when the funding runs out, whichever comes first. So don’t miss out, the government have put the time and money limit on this offer so don’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity — order today!
Am I eligible for the Scrappage Scheme discount?
You’re eligible if your car or van:
- Was first registered in the UK on or before 29th Feb 2000 ie. T reg or older
- Weighs up to 3500kg
- Is registered in the UK
- Has been MOT’d before you order your new car or van
- Has been registered in your name at a UK address for 12 consecutive months with the DVLA before you place your order.
Can I buy a new van under the Scrappage Scheme?
Yes. If the van you want to buy:
- Weighs no more than 3500kg
- Is registered in the UK after the date the scrappage scheme starts (mid May)
- If your new van is declared new at first registration in the UK with no previous owners.
What are the benefits to me?
Apart from the fantastic savings, this scheme offers motorists the peace of mind that comes with a new car - improved safety, mpg and running costs. New cars are cheaper to run with higher fuel savings, reduced servicing costs and a *3 year warranty as standard on new cars. Don’t forget, VAT is 15% until December 2009!
