Ford Fiesta is UK Best-Seller for 9th Consecutive Year!
Added: 10 January 2018
Everyone has heard of the Ford Fiesta. In 1976, the first generation Fiesta rolled off the production line and into the hearts of the nation. 42 years later, at Day’s Ford we can confirm that there is still a lot of love for the supermini - and according to figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers (SMMT), in 2017 it was the UK’s best-selling car - its 9th consecutive year on the top spot.
Recording registrations of 94,533 for the full year; the Ford Fiesta was 19,928 sales and 0.7 percentage points of market share ahead of its nearest competitor. In addition to this, 2017 also saw Ford taking the lead as the number one UK car brand for yet another year, marking 41 successive years as the leader.
According to the official SMMT figures, Ford sold 287,396 cars in the UK last year, with a market share of 11.3% and 78,934 sales ahead of its nearest rival.
Andy Barratt, Ford of Britain chairman and managing director, said: “We continue to carry sales momentum into 2018 with the extension of our popular scrappage scheme through to the end of March.”
The Ford scrappage scheme had originally been scheduled to end in December 2017, however, due to its resounding success, the decision was made to extend the offer, allowing more time for people to scrap their old, less efficient vehicles responsibly - and save up to £4,950 when they drive away a new model. At Day’s Ford, we have seen many of our customers take advantage of the savings to be made and predict that there will be many more through the doors before the scheme comes to an end.
Meanwhile, interest in the All-New Fiesta is only set to intensify this year, as Ford introduce even more variety to the range. The Active and ST models are set to hit showrooms later in 2018 - complementing an already comprehensive line-up which includes the Zetec, Titanium, ST-Line and Vignale variants, as well as the B&O Play series. Not only is the All-New Fiesta the most technologically-advanced small car in Europe, it is also one of the most versatile - and with this in mind, the small car’s enduring popularity should come as no surprise.
